Reading & Writing Workshop Units
In third grade students experience a workshop model for both reading and writing. Mini-lessons will occur everyday on a strategy or skill. Then, students are given time to independently read or write, teacher-student conferences take place and sharing what we've learned to the whole class, small group or a partner transpires. The units covered for reading this year will be: Building a Reading Life, Character Studies, Mystery Book Clubs, Reading to Learn and Research. Our writing units are: Personal Narrative, Letter Writing, Personal Essay, Realistic Fiction, and Non-fiction with Research.
Mrs. Giannandrea has purchased the premium membership for this program because she likes it so much! We are using the new WordSmith spelling program this year. A letter will go home every Monday stating what our word list is for the week and the strategy or skill we are practicing. Games will be available on spellingcity.com that you can play to get more practice with those words. Spelling tests will occur Friday with paper and pencil.
