Pioneer Comparison Projects
Project-based Learning with Social Studies – Comparing a 19th Century kid with a kid from today.
After learning about Pioneers of Michigan, students tried to imagine what life was like for a Pioneer kid back in the 1830’s. They watched an informational video online and recorded their findings using a Venn Diagram graphic organizer. Then they compared their own life with a pioneer kid. The next day they brought costumes and props and took “selfies” using their Chromebook Web Cams dressed as a pioneer and as a child of today. They diagrammed the photos on Google slides and created the background of the picture to look appropriate for the era it was supposed to be taken in.
